It's like the question, are you pregnant? There's no gray areas there's no room for ambiguity, either it's motorized or it's not motorized.
Having arrived at the age of 67 with a bum knee and the need to go mountain biking four days a week I can see where an E bike would be attractive soon. My KTM 300 is for sale right now so after that I will probably buy the Tesla model of an E bike I hear they're racing them in Super cross these days. Of course I realize I would no longer be a mountain biker, so yeah I'm not gonna do that. Oh yeah and fuck these 1Xs I need lots of gears if I'm going to keep peddling.

These open ended conversations about what is going to be an eventual part of our cycling culture are worthless unless discussed in a dedicated eBike sub-forum.

Having a fair discussion here in the general forum about pedal assist bikes and their merits (and I insist that it is pedal assist and not a throttle controlled bike) is like being a white elephant with a mink fur coat in a Democratic Convention. :)

"less sweating" is a guesswork typically said by those who have not ridden a pedal assist bike on a trail with gradients. Ride one and report back here on how much easier it is.

Meanwhile while we wait for a subforum...
Love the new term UPHILL FLOW. Yew!!!

We all know the ideals of fun riding is broad brush stroke universal but don't worry, pedal assist bikes are really not all that fun. :)

I won't deny that they've gotta be fun (motorcycles are fun for cryin' out loud!). I am simply concerned that they'll mess up my access to the illegal trails I already ride....

I'm giving up now though. There really is no fighting the bike companies requirement for more revenue and market share. This battle was over before it began. Capitalism will not be denied if the people want the product. Better tech (less weight, longer battery charges, etc.) + big marketing budgets, will ensure that the people will want it.

Shit; look at Ozzer. At the ripe old age of 43, he's already pining for one!

I'd be first in line paying full retail when the weigh has come down to around low 30 lbs.

...and when they've designed better ways to incorporate the battery pack onto or into the frame like this awkward pack access hatch at the bottom of the downtube area.

That looks like a little bit more than 30lbs.

The Frame is 20lbs..... Ok, maybe it's a little heavier with motor and batteries, but it has 218mm Front and 227mm rear travel, and starts at 27hp, or 46hp for under $10K.

Are you referencing that question to a pedal assist eBike or are you just feigning being ill-informed?
Again, as a courtesy, don't judge unless you've personally ridden a pedal assist bike on a real trail (not talking zipping commutes or dorky applications).

Here... At least it looks better than any Ellsworth and all of fat bikes.

Bring this down to 30lbs, I'll get another credit card for it.

SRAM and 1X system killed the gearbox half a decade ago and generally the front deraileur the last two years. Thank god for that latter.

Yeah, you're screwed, Shannon.
This dude has gone to Calavera on a heavy track and flora demolishing pedal assist bike and wrote about it.

For the gearbox, I would prefer the gearbox over 1x, center weight, stiffer rear wheel, and very very low maintenance.

The way I see it, pedal assist can help me get to the top faster, it won't make me come down any faster, Win Win in my book.

Here is an interesting video and read for all sides of the equation....

Mathew - you're a good guy and all, but this has got to be the winner of "Dumbest question of the week.". If you're actually serious, the answer is; In every meaningful way.

And Ozzer - thanks for popping my Calavera bubble. :?
