You should be able to upgrade that to Yosemite at least.

Bumping ozzer's troll post. He has said everyone should ride one before commenting. Well, I rode one today at Calavera, and my opinion hasn't changed. Ran into a guy named Dave who I've talked and ridden with a few times in the past. I will hereinafter refer to him as "Reverend Ebike" because he was enthusiastically preaching the virtues of his new Trek Ebike. He is in his sixties and wanted to get back on the trails after a recent long illness. So all the expected benefits were there. But what he was most stoked about and that surprised me was that he said he was now riding drops and downhill stuff that he avoided before, because the weight (50 lbs!) and stability (from that weight centered low) made such things easier. The Reverend let me and Rick ride it up a hill and back down, and it was what I expected...the hill was ridiculously easy, and downhill was stable and I could pop a (very) little air (good suspension & brakes on a top of the line bike).

So my opinion is unchanged. There are desirable reasons for owning one, despite the potential access issues we dread. But WTF, the whole area I call my home ride is illegal already. I just upgraded my old bike, and I think I have one more brand new traditional bike in my future. But to quote Mel Brooks again "We mock the thing we are to be". If an Ebike is what it takes to keep me riding with my friends another decade, I will probably get one. By then the batteries will be lighter and the power transition quieter and smoother, and hopefully access issues resolved. Time marches on.

This is funny! I ran into Dave today also.
He was preaching the E Bike. I've also been
against the E Bike,it's got a motor, I should be
riding a KTM. Dave did have a good point, he
wouldn't be out here, or couldn't, if not for
the E bike.
I hate to admit it, I'm kind of torn. I was
riding with Ozzer at the time!

We had a great ride, me, HP III, Bobby, Sue,
and Matthew.

Factoid:
Your local KOMs/QOM/Stravasshats could measurably put out more power or nearly as much power(wattage= drifts, skids, rails and high Gs) than any given eBikes out there. They've measured pro World Cup XC guys (Absalon and Nico Schulter) generating nearly 200w of power on the trail. These are XC guys. Imagine if you have Richie Rude type A shredders in your pristine conventional bike trails. But that's aight! All good. They've earned it. They suffered and had "their" fun. We all have relative definition of fun. Bikepacking does not appeal to me like it does to others. I think it's silly. I could do all that on eBike at half the suffering and half the time. Suffering must be a luxury to some.

My god. I can't wait. In 10 yrs (I'd be nearing 60s), I hope that battery would be so small it fits in nicely into that downtube and weight around 30lbs. By then, hopefully, the generational gap is much wider and more open minded.

(e)Mountain Bike Action May 2027 issue - Best eBikepacking shootout. Solar power eBike. electronic shifting integrated eBike, eLock out suspension, on the fly e-adjustment for your suspensions, anti lock brakes integrated to fork (so it resists diving under hard braking) -at sub 30lbs. With all these innovations, I hope titanium hardtails would be cheaper to buy... hahahaha.

Like SRAM Eagle. 1/4 the cost of a typical eBike.

I just love waving my eBike banners (and banters) because of the predictable emotions it evokes.

By the way, Skypark at Santa's Village is super fun and is now open (perfect for eBikes even though I climbed up it on every lap from opening to closing).

The inevitable aspect cannot be denied. But it is a whole different thing fundamentally. Think about that guy on an ebike first at the top of a climb, right... Howver, overall, more users should further our cause.

^^^ Very interesting article, and as usual, the comments devolve into a back-and-forth sh*tshow.

This whole "soul" thing is so easily thrown about. I have no issues with that notion at all as I have had many soul rides of my own.
What I do have issue is with people TELLING me how I should have FUN (which is as relative as the word SOUL) on my mountain bike rides.

My DH bike has no motor and pretty much a burden outside of its realm. My soul bleeds fun whenever I plow on it. Nonetheless, I still occasionally get shit from backward retroverts when I push or god forbids, shuttle on "local" purposely built DH spots and that I have to earn "it."
Have "fun" everyone. ;)
