Been staying up in the tiny town of Graeagle for a little over a week. Life conspired against riding much of the time though. Got two rides in. The 1st was the Mills Peak trail. Normally it's a shuttle, but that wasn't an option this time. I figured I'd start riding from the cabin and head up Gold Hwy while hitchhiking. After nearly a month of probably the most stressful period of my life, with little sleep and not eating much (sort of like a "flu diet"), and not riding at all during that time, I was not relishing the idea of the 13 mile climb. Someone will pick me up and give me a ride, right? Nope. A 3000' foot suffer fest to the top ensued. Eventually, I put my thumb away. There comes a point where you decide you don't want help and would rather put a notch on the belt and claim a victory instead. It took longer than I expected. Maybe two hours? Maybe longer? Hot damn was I happy to finally roll up to the drop-in though.

Mills Peak is a damned good trail. Lots of technical riding at the top, eventually turning into flowy switchback goodness. My particular problem was that I was already spent. Really had to focus on staying loose. I don't get leg cramps......I got leg cramps....

Probably seems like small taters to some, but it was a tough ride for this guy. About 22 miles with too much climbing.

Still fun as hell though, and i managed to get to the botTom and roll back into Graeagle in one piece.

Today I finally had my opportunity to get down to Downieville and take the shuttle back up to the top of the "Downieville Downhill". Dear God, thank you for shuttles! 15 miles of dh fun with maybe 3 miles of climbing at most. It's similar to Noble, but more fun and of course, more scenic. Just fantastic. An hour and 20 minutes later, I was enjoying a "donation beer' at Yuba Expeditions. Aaahhhh.

This area is the home of the "Lakes Basin" zone. It's just an incredibly beautiful place with gorgeous lakes sprinkled around the whole area. I didn't even scratch the surface of trail riding. There are amazing trails literally everywhere.

If you ever get the opportunity to come ride/stay here, do not think twice. It's a paradise.

Thanks for the TR, even w/o photos. I hope we can share a beer and a little about the most stressful period of your life soon...!
