For about 2 months now, I've been trying to convince my dad Phil that he needs to replace his 1995 ProFlex that we installed riser bars on to make a more "modern" riding position.

A few weeks ago, I got him to start actually testing some new bikes and he's ridden quite a few,
Intense Spyder 27.5
Commencal 27.5 120mm travel
Haro 27.5 FS (they were at the Quick n Dirty race 2 weeks ago)
and since this past Thursday has been on an Ellsworth Epiphany 27.5+

In between all of these he has also ridden my Santa Cruz TallBoy LT and he kept coming back to really liking my TallBoy, which leads us to what happened this morning.

We went out to Hodges to do an easy ride, test the Ellsworth again (3rd fairly good ride on it), but when he switched to my bike he really liked how it felt and rode (but still really liked the 27.5+ tires on the Ellsworth). I decided to call up Bike Warehouse in San Marcos to see if they were open, just to look at and parking lot ride a Santa Cruz Hightower. Well.... Not only were they open, but they had an XL Hightower, which I thought would be to big, but fit near perfectly (almost identical to my Tallboy LT, it is the replacement sooo) A bit of riding around the parking lot, hopping some curbs, etc, and the fact that they were doing a 20% off sale made him decide to take it home!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did assure him that if he doesn't like it he can take my Tallboy and I'll take the Hightower.

After much fussing and negotiation it ended up being 20% off and they are going to swap out the 150mm dropper post for a 125mm. Being a Large frame, the only minor fitment issue was that the standard 150mm post set in the frame as low as possible, was about 1/2 to a full inch to high for him, so the best remedy is one size shorter post. For now he will use the long one and drop it a little for the proper height.

This is just the basic C Model, because he didn't have the budget for a CC.

I think he's going to be pretty damn happy with this bike.

There is a museum somewhere that might want that relic..... (the Proflex that, is).

The SC is a fine rig for pops!

The fact that I still see a Proflex out on the trails every now and then is testimony to how much that bike was liked. And still is.

I wanted a ProFlex soo bad but had to settle on adding a Manitou fork to my ride back then.

21 years ago the ProFlex was pretty damn good, but today, it just needs to go into a museum or vintage specific race. My dad, being one of the older guys out riding, needs something that isn't as leaned over as much and is more plush and needs more comfort, and stability.

I think the Hightower fits all those boxes.
