Rockshox introduces new metric shocks: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/rockshoxs- ... -2016.html

There seem to be some excellent reasons for going metric (read marketing bullet points in aforementioned link). It all seems fairly innocuous. Maybe even a good thing. Oops... One big bummer:

"Can I still use my older shock in a new metric frame? Nope, you can't. Different shock lengths and mounting hardware mean that this isn't possible."

If the shock performs well (and of course it will), you can bet your ass that suspension bikes with imperial measurements (all our bikes), are an endangered species. Planned obsolescence at it's very finest.

The sad part is, I'm already a little excited about this line of shocks... :?

Even as fast as I go thru bikes sometimes, I can't imagine buying a new bike/frame just to have access to a new shock. It would have to be a complete game changer and perform as good as the PUSH 11-6 supposedly is.

^^agreed. I wouldn't either. However, how can the bike industry not latch on to this enormous opportunity to ramp up sales for new frames and completes? By 2018-2020, I reckon there won't be any more non-metric bikes being produced, if this new shock line delivers.

Oh, I hear ya and I agree 100%. I was on board with the 12x142 because even an amateur like me could tell a difference on the bike and the simpleness (is that a word) fit my limited mechanical skills to a T. Now this Boost stuff is silly if you ask me. My newest bike, the 5010, has Boost and I can't tell a difference at all. I can tell a difference in my checkbook though because I had to have my wheels re-built on Boost hubs.

More to the point you're making, I won't be buying a new bike that isn't Boost because that die is cast and I want to be able to sap my wheels around if necessary.

Ironically many of the measurements listed are just standard units converted to metric (unless they purposely designed the parts in fractions of millimeter which would be absolutely retarded):

Shaft diameter: 12.7mm = 1/2"
Body diameter: 28.5mm = 1 1/8"

How strange that the only measurements actually changed to metric are the ones where it interfaces with the bike (stroke and length).

The bike industry is so stupid sometimes, they will put a marketing spin on literally anything.
