I knew this day would come eventually, and now that it's here I barely care. The Marines placed a "No Trespassing" sign on Three Barrels, about a third of a mile north of the trail's namesakes. I saw it first-hand this morning -- from what I understand of the base boundaries, it appears that they were fair in the location of the sign.

I have read that the Marines placed a sign in Oak Canyon too, but I don't know anyone who has seen that one, so I have no details. I do know that the base boundary comes just about all the way down to the 52 in Oak Canyon, so I wouldn't be surprised if the whole canyon is shut down (which is a shame, because the existing singletrack could be re-routed and about 25-50 yards to the east and the trail would no longer encroach on government property).

Well, I see there are the very exciting "ride with the ranger" trail rides over in that park that you could bond with the fine folks that run that place or maybe attend the "repair their shit trails that they have to repair every year trail building events"
There's just so much fun going down over on the trails in that prestine setting.

EDIT: I truly feel your pain and this is total BS for local riders like you. Don't think it's getting better any time soon.

^^^ With these closures, it's impossible to ride a worthwhile loop - everything is out-and-back. I suppose I'll be riding MTRP proper a lot more often. The good is that I'll be climbing my ass off; the bad is that about 90% of those "trails" are fireroads.

Someone tore the sign out, so I assume that means it's okay to ride there again . . . .

Ride with A Ranger at Mission Trails Regional Park
Saturday, May 7th 8:30 am - 11:00 am
West Sycamore Staging Area dirt lot at the east end of Stonebridge Pwky. Coordinates: 32.929287, -117.003119

This is the second in a series of three mountain bike rides geared for beginners/low intermediates. Arrive around 8:30 a.m. and have your bike checked by SDMBA volunteers and get ready to roll by 9 a.m.

Get to know the park and increase your skills. Join ranger Araceli Dominguez for this fun, nature and progressive beginner skills series of rides. If you are new to riding, this is for you!

Each ride will increase a little so you can try new skills and get comfortable with your bike. Next Ride with a Ranger is on June 4. You can join us on some or all of the rides in this series. Remember to bring your bike in good working order, a helmet, other safety equipment desired, plenty of water, sunscreen and food.

Enjoy the vistas as you ride. This new area to the park is waiting to be explored. We’ll start on gently service roads where you may see birds of prey rising to eye level on thermals from the canyons below. The habitat here is classic chaparral. We will ride a new wide single-track trail  down and up through Beeler Canyon. Maximum distance will be 10 miles.
Learn shifting, braking and handling skills from SDMBA volunteers.
