Well, a group of us found out today that it's apparently the end of an era. Just as we were about to reach the start of Dumb Down from the shuttle parking area, we were ran into Viejas Indians and construction workers erecting a fence across the fire road. They weren't rude, but they did make it clear that trespassing will no longer be tolerated.

Apparently all of World Cup and Dumb Down falls within the area owned by them, but I'm pretty sure their property stops short of the flat area just above Lake Jennings. The only way to know for sure would be to climb from the bridge up ATT until one runs into a fence, I guess.

Sorry, man.

Reservation land is very anti-bike/public use. The same problems have been run into at the Palm Springs epic. Guess they got too much bad publicity between the recent rider death and no less than 3 vehicles over the side at El Cap. The only access to the top of the trail via car was through their land.

I think the big issue up there was the 4-wheelers. The Forest Service has a process going on to shut down unauthorized routes on the Cleveland National forest, the majority of which are motorized/roads.

For ATT it looks like they will be decommissioning some of the dirt roads around 4 Corners, but not far below it. See the attached map below. Since the San Diego River Park Foundation has bought some land at the bottom of ATT proper and are committed to keeping it open for multi-use we should still be able to access ATT proper from the bottom.

As for the stuff on Tribal Land, I'm sure they will patrol it for a while but if people will actually stay away for once and let things quiet down I'm sure the trails will eventually return. Though shuttling may be a lot more difficult.

I think the real issue with tribal lands is that they got no respect at all for the mtb-entitlement mentality.
Not one bit.

Didn't know there was a recent death out there. Maybe that was just the last straw after all of those jackasses who got their cars stuck down by Lake Jennings.

While it sucks, it is private land, so I completely get their POV. The fact that they didn't do this sooner was a blessing. All good things eventually must end, but at least I got to ride there a few times over the years.

Isn't UND314 the truck trail? Wonder what USFS defines as "decommission," might just be make it so a 4x4 can't drive on it?

Thanks for the 411. Gonna miss that stuff, lots of good memories, Aqua antics, the Tfitz crash, chasing JJthewhale up that effin trail, etc. Can't fault the Viejas band for asserting their property rights, we were lucky to have the access while we did.
