Whoever did this is a Trailwrecking Assmuncher. If you cannot ride over rocks that have been on the trail forever, stay on your damn road bike on the pavement.

Image

Whoever did this really worked at it, as the rock they pulled out is the one on the left. It was a good 10 inches deep. The even filled the hole with rocks and dirt to smooth it out.

But not to worry I put it back, I'm sure it won't last long.

Those can hardly be called "rocks."

Which makes it all the more pathetic that someone felt the need to move one.

I guess the T.W.A.M. wasn't content with the recent go-around on the left, which I've half-heartedly blocked a couple times. He really wanted that extra fraction of a second off his Strava time.

Nothing upsets me more than trail sanitization, especially something like this. I have sent to following message to both Ride and Performance (as the nearest local) shops to please post. Including pictures.

As a concerned user of the trail system in Calaveras, I would appreciate if you could post the attached pictures as examples of unacceptable trail modifications.

The First picture attached is a section of trail that has been “Sanitized” by removal of a rideable rock. The second picture shows the original rock placed back to it’s near original position.

As of now, I have word that the rock has been removed once again, but it will be returned to its original location soon.

Please advise your customers that trail SANITIZATION is UNNACCEPTABLE. If they cannot or do not want to ride a section of trail as it is, they should purchase a road bike and stay on the pavement.

Thank you.

I love the idea of putting them back. But you have to put a much bigger rock in a much bigger hole so they can't get it out. And hopefully its in a place that they can't just ride around. Unfortunately, the fighting lowest common denominator always seems to be a losing battle.

Thanks Mathew. I must have ridden by there just before you. I moved the rock back, but didn't bury and fill it in (Admittedly, I was on another mission). We appreciate it!

If you turned it so it was the long way and wedge in between the two other rocks it would make a nice small launch ramp...
