I'm wondering what type of spokes our DH/FR brethren use. Last build I had done was geared towards saving weight. I doubt this will be of any concern this time around. Thinking more bomb-proof...

I use DT Swiss Competition spokes on my "beefy wheels" I have broken 2 of them in over a year and a half of hard riding. One of them was broken when a rock took it out. Just so you know, the wheelset I use on my RFX is Mavic EX823's laced to Hope Pro II's using the above spokes and DT Swiss brass nipples. I wouldn't suggest ever using alloy nipples, they just aren't worth the weight savings imho. They are just too easy to round off even when using the nicest of spoke wrenches.

Forgot to add that my wheels are 32 hole. Thanks Mark.

If you want a stronger wheel, use more spokes. 36 spokes at least for the rear. 40 if you really want it to be beefy.

40 spokes?

Oh yeah, I agree with Mr. Sykes.

DT Competition 14/15 and brass nipples- you could get away with alloy if you want.

What rims?

^Did a quick search. 40 hole rims and hubs are not that common, but they do exist.

Just go with 36 spokes on the rear since it's common.

Thanks guys! It's gonna be Saint 36 spoke hubs. I'll take the opportunity to add the Saint brakes as well. Drivetrain will have to wait, even though I fancy the Saint SGS rear derailleur. Just felt the tank could use bit more stopping power...
