I saw the FR/DH thread and can't contribute... just haven't done this long enough to get out and snap photos.

So let's start a thread where you post photos of when you rode 20 inch bikes, wore Levis 501s (and could fit in them), had checkered vans and wore a poncho you picked up in TJ. Oh and you rocked out to Judas Priest on vinyl.

Ok I'm old but I know there's some of you rockers out there that can make this fun.

:bang:

I wish, my old race bike was tricked out with campy hubs and bearings. They'd fetch good money from collectors nowadays.

Nice! Excellent shots.

Am I seeing a DB Silver Streak in the Dirt Jumps in SD shot? That was my first true BMX bike, but I dreamed of a Turbo in black chrome. Funny, I had Campy hubs too.

Are you pulling that one-footer off the old triples at Kearny? That would've been a balsy move.

I remember coming back from college and seeing my bmx bike getting old and rusty in my parents garage and sold it. Kinda wish I would've kept it now.

That's a sweet shot and all the Haro swag too! I had the same chin guard.

That indeed was a Turbo, I stripped the black chrome off and changed up the cranks to Redline flights and Bottema forks (the stock stuff got tweaked fast).

The one footer was over the step up jump into the last turn right after the triples -- I did clear them in a race once which I still vividly remember.

I sold off all my bikes, tools, trophys when I quit racing just after my junior year in high school. :( Fun times back in the day.

You...stripped...off...the...black....chrome...? You don't know how many days I sat in school drooling over that black chrome in the brochure. I had to settle for the plain old standard silver stuff.

I totally forgot about that step up, thanks for the reminder. Those triples were daunting, and stories abounded of those that did not clear it. I don't think I ever attempted them - heck, I didn't and still don't like to crash.

Believe it or not, I saved all my old trophies. One's so tall it had to be dismantled to fit into the garage cabinet. They've been moved around so much, probably half are broken. I always thought "One day, I'll have a son who will be blown away by all these and see what a legend I was." He's almost five, and I STILL haven't gotten them down to show him.

Oh man, the memories. Thanks for the pics and starting this thread :bang: Growing up and racing BMX in Phoenix during the 80's, I met both Harry and all of the guys from JP several times. A friend of mine at the time raced for DB and Harry would always come to his house when he was in town.

And I swear to God that Rob Halford was not gay during the 80's! He always had the hottest girlfriends. Who knows, maybe it was all just a show?

Unfortunately, my parents got rid of all of my BMX stuff when I left home and joined the Marine Corps. My bikes, pics, and trophies (I only had a few anyway  )

The black chrome wasn't really as advertised, more like a black tinting over chrome plating. It got a nice scratch on it and I decided to take it down to the chrome. It was pretty sweet. All the parts on the bike was chrome.

The triples were always a challenge, roll the first, jump the last 2 or jump first 2 and roll the last. That was the only way. They were always fun to do backwards also, after the racing was done, you could get on the track and mess around on each section of the track.

Yah, those trophies were taking up a lot of room. They had to go. I think I might have one at my parents house I came across a while back. It was caked in dust way up in the rafters.

That is so cool that you met him. I never did. Although I got to hang with his team mate Eddy King and his lil bro Mikey at kearny park.

I remembered getting my hands on the my first BMX Action mag and Harry was on the cover. They were doing a exposé on him and his bike. I can still remember the full spread poster inside of him with his full gear on, his long blond hair hanging out the back of his helmet, chin strap and goggles on, just doing the biggest, fattest power slide. Dirt was everywhere. I was mesmerized and hooked right there. I spent the next 3 months of paper route money to save up for that bike.

Rob was so bad ass in those videos, how could he be gay. Crazy stuff. But you can't replace that voice. That band was the shit during my bmx days. :bang:

I had blue campy hubs on my Diamondback mini back in 1981 . I sold a pair of wheels with campy hubs on ebay for 375.00 a few months back
