I know this isn't anyone here but I wanted to help Gina get the word out...

Hi All,

Does anyone have information about an early morning mountain bike race scheduled in the Preserve on Thanksgiving? I’ve heard rumors that there may be 50-100 people “racing” from east to west on the 27th, rain or shine. This sort of event requires a permit and to my knowledge none have been issued. Also I am concerned about the possible “rain or shine”; we are expecting some pretty good rains Wednesday and Thursday and I would hate to have that many bikes riding through the Preserve when it’s really wet, that would cause a lot of damage. If anyone has any info, can you please let me know, I’d really appreciate it.

So what would happen if me and say 50 of my good riding buddies decided to ride there at one predetermined time. And lets say we like to ride fast and "race" one another. Would that need a permit? Not that I would sanction or approve of such a thing, I was just wondering.

BTW I will be out of town this weekend.

I'm riding my SS!!!

Disclaimer: I am just joking, I will not be riding LPQ on Turkey Day. I will be riding local, and at like 4 in the morning so I don't hear it from the wife.

Okay,

I received some information on the rumored event in PQ on the 27th. It is not a race, it is not attended by 50-100 people. It is an unofficial, unsanctioned, unpublished group of people that get together every year in PQ to ride through the canyon. Thank you everyone for getting back to me so quickly with what you did know. I appreciate the community I have to work with.

By the way, as of this morning, we have decided not to close the trails. They are wet, but we have been working on many of the trails to provide adequate drainage. There are some puddles; so if you do decide to use the trails you have to go through the mud, don’t try going around b/c that will widen the trails and we know how we all hate wide trails.

Have a great and safe weekend.

I don't think it rained all that much here in Sorrento Valley. Most of it seems to have fallen in South Bay. (Judging by the freeway closure). Then again, PQ closes at the mere mention of rain in the forecast. Maybe we'll have another huge Equestrian event there this weekend after the rains. That happened a couple of years ago and the trails took 2 years for those "post-holes" to finally go away. OK, I'm done being bitter. You guys have a great Thanksgiving. You'll have 3 days of weekend left to burn off all of that stuffing and gravy....

Hi everyone,

We went out into the Preserve to check the trail conditions and we found the creek has rerouted itself across the main access road, which completely limits emergency access. I checked the discharge meter and the creek is running at 4.7 feet which is twice its normal depth. It peaked at just over 7 feet early this morning. We are expecting some more rain this afternoon and evening so we will reassess the trails Friday morning. We are supposed to get some warm Santa Anna conditions this weekend, so I am sure we will be able to open the trails quickly. I’ll let you know as soon as conditions change or improve. Please share this information with all of your friends, thanks for the cooperation.

I live in Carmel Valley (just a smidge north of LPQ), and it was raining all night from what I could tell.

Thanks NappyT for the updates on the trails. I saw that the East side was blocked off but the West trail sign said open. Things weren't too bad, I did like the ranger asked and didn't avoid the puddles, lol.

Its pretty cool to have a ranger on here to give us updates and create a good relationship with them.

Anyone want to carpool, I don't know any better way to celebrate Thanksgiving, than racing at LPQ in the rain with all that mud, can't wait or it to get in my drivetrain.
