Imagine my surprise when I checked Dirt Treaders this morning and saw another one! Gforce, where did you see yours? I found mine on one of the trails coming down into the Princess Joann neighborhood in Santee. It's been a while since I've seen one. |

However, a sheep spine and a human spine are about the same size. Easily differentiated by a trained eye, but mine isn’t. It was obviously old, and on top of untracked sand freshly washed down from the mountains by recent rains. So I noted the location, and illegally carried it out with us to a ranger station for them to have it identified. Why? We were downwash from the last known location of a San Marcos teenager who left his disabled Jeep ten years ago and was never seen again. The rangers were unfamiliar with the case and the location, but I’ve never forgotten about him. Highly unlikely, but still... So, the rangers said they’d call me, but never did, so I assume a naturalist took one look at it and said “sheep”. Coincidentally, last weekend I was bikepacking at Hapaha Flat and Valley Boy found this one! We decided it looked to be from a sheep’s neck. Attachment: Today I looked up this photo, which confirms that the recent one is from a bighorn neck, and the earlier one is probably a lumbar spine section. Attachment:

They are OUT and soaking up the sun. Eye's open! This is in the "Stowe" section of Sycamore today, 3/31/2020. NOT an April fools trick.
