Came across a pack of ~5 coyotes, three of which were relieving themselves on the trail. Didn't get my camera out until the last one had finished and was trotting away.

It’s a pretty crappy phone pic, but I think you can recognize it’s a bobcat. I was pretty stoked to come around a corner and see him walking along in front of me. He turned up a side trail, so I dropped my bike and followed him and sure enough, saw him again and got a fuzzy pic. Best nature moment in a while.

Surely couldn't say, but maybe it's the same guy I saw coming down Brown Angel a couple years ago.

I was able to get pretty close to photograph this kangaroo rat, because it’s DEAD. Honestly, the biggest godddam kangaroo rat I’ve ever seen, bigger than the size listings for the Pacific Kangaroo Rat and the Giant Kangaroo Rat — looking it up, I regret not putting something in the photo for scale. The tail is about 6-8” long. I noticed this at the edge of a main trail this morning, hidden under the shade of overhanging shrubs. Applying my extensive forensic knowledge gained by hundreds of hours watching crime dramas with my wife, I deduced it was frightened to death by one of those hated, rampaging high-speed e-bikers, sometime between 6AM and 8AM ( rigor mortis had not completely set in, and there was not a mark on it, no petechial hemorrhaging, so it had probably not been strangled by a jealous mate).

Weird fact I just learned. They store food in their *external* cheek pouches, not inside cheek pouches like other similar creatures. This is so the seeds or whatever don’t soak up any precious moisture while being stored. I guess I could’ve checked it to see what it was eating. But I’m not *that* interested. And BTW, an expert said that was a Dulzura Kangaroo Rat.

Purdy snek, but the real eye catcher was Avidtest’s new hard-tail, single-speed. Sucker moves so fast, couldn’t get a pic!

I decided to buy a game camera for my off grid camping trips to see what or who was strolling about the campsite. Caught this coyote on camera the first night I used it. That "light" on the top/side of the van is one of my night vision cameras reflecting back at the game camera.

Image

While having my morning coffee, I hear this Dumb SOB pecking on the front of my van
I have installed cameras on every side of the van to view who's gonna get me in the middle of the night and this is a screen shot from my inside monitor.
Confirmed with our resident & slightly broken expert ODD that it's a cactus wren.

Cactus wren
Arizona's state bird, the cactus wren (campylorhynchus brunneicapillus), is brown with a speckled chest. If you look close you can see white lines over each eye. They grow to be about 7 to 8 inches in long, a little bit bigger than a new pencil.
