Tiger salamander. North central Montana (ok basically Alberta, Canada)

At least 3/4 mile from the nearest surface water.

It did start raining 5 min later which was fun since I was 5 miles from the nearest “road” (read; dirt graded into a ridge and compacted)

Well I’m rethinking my life choices after hearing about this otter attack a week later in a watershed a couple valleys over!

When I was about four, my dad had a pet river otter. He'd made a big pen for her with a little pool. She loved him. Me? Not so much (you can withhold your comments). I poked my finger through the pen one day and she latched onto my finger. Hit a vein. Bled all over the damned place. Viscous little shits when they decide to be.

Yesterday just past the stream crossing by the old people gardens into the s 40.
Probably 12 inch claw-span. Didn’t notice him until I almost stepped on him at which point he did the defensive claw wave thing. Scared the literal piss outta me!
