Riding Lower Rock Creek near Mammoth this summer, we followed this owl for about a mile. Every time we came up on him he would fly further down the trail a couple hundred yards and stop. After moving about 4-5 times, he squared up with us, pushed out his feathers and started hissing. We were probably close to the nest, not sure. Thought it was weird to see an owl in the middle of the day, let alone have a stand off with it.

I've never had a camera ready for any of the critters that I've encountered on the trail, but I always have the camera ready while diving. Snapped these while in the Fl Keys last year.

Found this guy hiding in a hole, so I took him with me for future consumption.

Then I bumped into a bunch of these guys. This little buddy looked hungry, so I shared some of the previous guy with him, much to Mr. Lobster's dismay.

Eric, you need to find a way to post that pic of the tarantula hawk we saw in Oak dragging the tarantula off to its Alien-esque doom.

I was hoping someone would post a picture like that. The photo I took with my phone was so small and distorted that I ended up deleting it.

Another one from today, scripps poway wildlife tunnel trail aka "horse trails". Hiding in the bush beside narrrow singeltrack, spotted him just in time! Rattled like mad, was not one of those chill laid back rattlers that just slither off out of the way
