Some research suggests that they are evolving and are starting not to rattle. The theory is that the rattling rattlers are getting hunted/killed, whereas the silent ones survive and breed. Oh great....

Thousands of little frogs (leopard frogs I think) and several water snakes in Big Laguna this weekend. Also a beautiful mountain kingsnake in the campground which I think some other DT'ers got a photo of.

This is the beautiful mountain kingsnake we saw. I grabbed a frame from a video by Philippe. I have heard these called coral kings as well. If you live where it's important to know the difference, the rhyme is "red & black, friend of Jack; red & yellow, kill a fellow".

Not my photo - but so good I had to copy it. It was taken at Calavera this morning by Philippe, who many of us know but isn't in DT, he got several photos and video of this pair mating by the K-rail.
