Saw several of these things on today's lunch ride! :shock:

I'm sure you all have noticed that the only pictures we ever get of trail critters are of the really slow ones. Snakes, tarantulas and the like. The fast ones just get out of our way as quickly as they can...
And to that point;

Headed up to Culp Valley for my normal afternoon ride up the mountain. As I came around a corner I could have sworn I was following a dark colored mountain lion.
I said something out loud and it looked over its shoulder and trotted off the trail.
Thinking it might not be the smartest thing I've ever done, I continued up the trail and past where it had moved off the road. No big deal. I finished my climb and headed back down toward the truck....and wouldn't you know...
I came around a corner at warp speed and that 'cat' was walking down the road again! Although this time I got a good look at it and discovered it was a large desert fox. Once it saw me heading toward it much quicker than the first time, it turned around and ran as fast as it could away from me, but still staying on the dirt road! I was able to start catching it when he suddenly veered off the road and lost its footing. I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I swear it rolled twice before regaining his feet. Satisfied that it was okay (back on his feet and moving!) I turned my attention back to the road....only to come face to face with a deer!
Somehow he didn't hear me or was also watching the fox run. I grabbed both brakes as he dove for the bushes.
What a rush! I decided to cut my speed a bit for the last half mile to the truck.
Who knows what I was going to run into next!

Rick

That is the smallest frog I've ever seen.
Where in BB did you find him?

As you get off the lift, and you start heading down the trail on the left (East), about 200-300 meters from the lift at the top of the fire trail. There were hundreds of them! Most people didn't notice them at all because they were riding through that section too fast.

Just watch out for the flying cartwheel attack. I hear those are lethal.

The first one I saw might have been Son of Pinwheel -- same location; same type of snake; same ornery disposition.
