Barcy -- What's with all the "death march" rides? Do you not waste your time on rides on sub-40 mile rides now? I'd like to push myself some more, but I know I'm not up for the 400 mile/29,000 ft. climbing rides you've been posting lately.

B, some advice... having done Coldwater I can tell you its not one that you want to end a 50mi ride with. Trust me... its a ton of sharp switchbacks that you want to be on your game for. That, and the last mile or so is incredibly steep. If you're all tired it will not be a good day out, and walking this stuff will not be easier than riding it! You should try riding it as described in the geoladders route. Get Coldwater done earlier on and HJ will be a better descent to end with.

Evan, you forgot to mention to bring a 100' of climbing rope to lower the bikes down first on each of the last two steep sections. Although they would only be rated Class 2 sections at best, you will need to repel about two pitches on the first steep section, and maybe just one long pitch on the last. A small piece of cardboard to scoot down the slope on your butt could also be helpful, and a good stick can act like an ice axe :). Oh how I miss the bliss of the ass end of CW!

In the absence of the above, riding into the bushes at the side of the trail slowed me down nice and good before things got out of hand
