Since a lot of San Juan whining robbed Rob of Chiquito chunk last Thursday, bjammin is making it up to me and showing me the full Chiquito/Viejo Tie route:

http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=109

I've only done the very top portion, but as I understand it Chiquito is superchunky and not for those uncomfortable with technical rocky stuff.

Meeting at the La Costa Ave. park and ride off I-5 at 6:30am.

Wheels rolling by 8am. It will be hot. Ride will probably last until noon or so, depending on amount of rock playtime and whether bjammin gets his act together and fixes his real bike.

Ben & Rob,

Any chance this will happen again on a weekend?

Ben usually works on the weekends, and I usually have kid duty - but if this is as fun as it sounds, I'll probably schedule another on a weekend when I can sneak away for half a day.

Hey Barcey, call out sick and come watch me kill myself again on the SS! (if the rear brake on the 5.5 doesn't come back to life)

ps - I love the comments on Geo about this ride!

No kidding on the quotes. My favorites:

"Very tech ride even harder with out a rearbreak, Lost it about 45 min into the ride."
(See Ben, you don't need no stinkin' rear brake!)

"2 broken derailliers, broken chain, broken brake cable, and a flat tire amongst all of us. Other than that, it was a great ride."

And the number one quote in my book: "Man trail. Period."

I'll be sitting there tomorrow at work wishing I was riding with you guys...

I was thinking of doing this ride Saturday before I even saw this post.

Yes, it is pretty tough. Imagine the best of Noble and some of ATT and TW all rolled into one trail. Have fun, and be safe on the ride back down to the bottom.

I've never done it as a loop, were you planning on taking the Ortega back? Hope not, that road is scary enough just to DRIVE on. I heard there is a dirt road that parallels the Ortega just to the north that you can pick up as soon as you come down Chiquito where it connects to the San Juan Loop. I've just never had a chance to explore it. If nothing else, maybe take two cars?

Have fun and we want to see lots of pics!
