Sounds like a pretty crappy day overall.

It's never a crappy day when you get to ride 25 miles of epic single-track with a bunch of cool peeps....... :hello: It sure was better than sitting around on New Year's day watching some assinine parade......

Haha Ozz, yeah that was a very scary major bonk, worst one I've ever had. I learned a very important lesson about hydration, and to avoid consuming pre-ride redbulls and too much alcohol days before. The drive home in the mountains head on into the sun was another Epic adventure, arrived safe yet parched.

btw - you put the wrong # on your post. I thought it was Ozzer's. I texted at 7am NYD thinking it was him, then again just now thinking it was you! they replied "wrong #, don't know u!" :)

I should have a vimeo done soon but the footage didn't turn out well due to bad camera angle.

Thanks again for showing me the way out of there.

I think few folks are getting the impression the ride was a disaster .......that could be farther from the truth....dealing with unexpected issues on an Epic ride and then finishing it and everyone is smiling and stoked because of your resourcefulness and/or self reliance in the middle of nowhere is an awesome feeling. The only trail we missed was Hahn Buena Vista but we still rode 90% of my planned route and even with the hiccups we were all out of there by 3:00 p.m......and If it had gotten dark guess what I had a light with me in my pack.

All the fellas were PCE noobs and were stoked about this ride and I was glad to lead you guys.......we got to ride some challenging single-track and got to see some awesome views....I'll gladly ride with you guys again anytime with or without mechanicals.....

Okay, that's four things and four riders. Did each guy get one thing, or did one poor focker get three out of four?

Excellent! It's always better to share the grief as well as the fun. I've been wanting to do this ride for several years, but I know my current limits. I'm good for a long ride, or a hard ride, but not a long, hard ride.

To prepare for this particular ride, during the month of December i rode about 60 dirt miles and climbed about 8,000 feet (broken up into about 5 rides) The nice weather helped.......

Normally I only ride twice a week about 10 miles each time......

I cruised really easily on this ride.....but was probably a combination of my fitness and all the extra stops

Smart man. I did this ride on New Years Eve for the first time and under estimated how difficult this ride is.

Hey Ozz,

My buddy and I were the other two fools out there. We got a late start that day due to other commitments. But the weather was perfect, clear sunny. The water crossings we all dry except for 2 major spots (the pools). It made for a easy ride through the meadows.

The dry wash was in the best shape I've ridden it making the climb to the dozer pretty easy.

My buddy and I added on a few miles of Art Smith. The top part of the trail is pretty fun descending from the dozer until you hit a bunch of sandy wash sections. We decided we didn't have enough water to go that much farther and climbed back up to the dozer and then did HBV.

Going from HBV to Wild horse is when my buddy got spin happy and dumped me when I was raising my saddle back up. We both know the route but he missed the first turn and went straight in the direction of the trading post. I figured he knew where he was going so in my attempt to catch up I missed the last turn to wild horse and ended up back over on Dunn Rd where I ran into you guys. Thanks for letting me tag along for a few minutes. :)

After that the rest of the ride went pretty smooth Wild Horse and the Goat trails are always a blast.

After the ride we hit up the traditional Tacos and Beer at the Mexican joint down the street. 3 years in a row I've done this ride on NYD. Always a good time. This was definitely the best conditions I've ridden out there.

Here's some of the video I took from that ride.

I must say it was FUN despite being a bit under the weather before the ride... and now I know what it's like to ride in the desert with glycogen depletion in the bright sun for 10 miles. 8)
