You could say I don't like them, or you could say that I think they aren't safe to use(I am mainly talking about the Candy series). I have a permanent scar from the spindle snapping in half while climbing a hill. They fixed it no questions asked(they do have good customer service), but then it happened again less than a month later. They offered to upgrade me to the stainless spindle, I told them that's what I am currently using, they said sorry and offered to fix them again, I didn't even bother. Oh yeah, emfc, I told you so(referring to this past Sunday).

The flip side of that is that I have had a set of them for over 5 years with zero problems. . . and a second set for 2 years that have held up as well.

I heard a lot of good things about the wheelset until i saw this with my own two eyes. His rear hub just stopped engaging after only less than 5 rides.

I have seen one set with a bum free hub body. This summer when we went out to Granby for nationals we had 4 sets of demo cobalts. Day before the race one of the 4 sets free hub body crapped out. But CB swapped it out right then and there and the wheels have been getting used since.

My personal outlook on specific companies is, everyone has different experiences with different companies. Some good, some horrible. That seems to be the case with CB. But you can't deny the wheels look cool, lol.

The problem with CB wheels, is that they aren't that light considering what they cost. You can get just as light and strong for less money. So why bother?

Exactly. I've got a DT 240/ZTR355 build that is still lighter than the CB "XC race" setup at the 26" size. And I ride them much harder than XC race. Zero problems. Oh, and I paid over $100 less for my set that was expertly built by Dave T. at Speed Dream wheels.

For true XC race you could have a set built over 200g lighter with different hubs and rims. And probably more problem-free.

Bam. Nail on the head regarding the wheels. I have some 240S built up with Flow's. Bombproof, decently light 29'er wheels(1820gms). Also, the issue with CB(and one other company) that I have is this: The fact that you have great customer service is awesome, and a much needed thing now a days, however, the fact that I needed to use it because of a catastrophic failure twice in a month and a half was unsat and steered me away from their products!

That sucks about the broken spindle and scar. Luckily my LBS told me to ditch the Ti spindle pedals I was using before I ended up in the hospital.....not Eggbeaters, some old Ritchey's.

I find it hard to believe people get away with using Eggbeaters......this is a comment about a bike photo on Velocult that just amazed me......"the platform pedals are only on there at the moment because all of my 3 out of 5 of my EGGBEATERS are out for warranty and the are LAGGING! im going to try out some speedplays now and see what theyre all about"

5 pairs of eggbeaters and 3 in for warranty...yikes!!!! Maybe they were lagging for a reason.....like some sanity to show up.
