Hey guys, I need some advice on purchasing 29er tires. I want to replace the one's i currently have.

Here is what i am looking for:

29er tire 2.3 or bigger
It has to be tubeless( I can't find a lot of selection)
and more aggressive than xc(perhaps all mountain).

I want to buy them today or tomorrow.

Get some Maxxis Ardents 2.4. NOB has stock sometimes
You can run them tubeless. I run 2.25r and 2.4f on Stans Flows.
Also Panaracer Rampage 2.35. Can run tubeless.

I am very happy with Ignitor's all around. However, the Ardent is an awesome, awesome tire. Durable, large volume, and great, great traction. Ignitor on the rear, Ardent on the front was my 24hr set-up and will be my standard set-up very soon.

Thanks everyone for the input  I'm going to order some Ardents tomorrow. They shouldn't be a problem on a DT Swiss TK 7.1 rims with Tubless kit, right?

Dude...... just try installing the tires and you'll see.

sorry to jack the thread. but on the ardents, are you running them on a 29er or on a 26?
i bought a set of 26x2.4 for my enduro and didn't like the way they looked when mounted. very narrow center lugs, yet they were tightly spaced together for fast rolling. but on a 22mm wide rim (dt swiss 420sl), there was too much transition to the side lugs. i'm used to the regular 2.35 minions which have a slightly wider center lug section and less of a transition to the side. i can deal with this, but the larger width tire, which actually mounts approx 2.33in wide tread to tread, and its high center lugs only left about 1/8 clearance on the specialized E150 fork. a little too close for comfort for me, so i'm returning the ardents. maxxis and they're screwed up tire sizes... the minions, at least the 2.35 ?maxxpro? are very narrow, they mount at 2.05" wide. the ardents 2.4" actually mount much closer to their specified size.

i placed an order for schwalbe wicked wills 26x2.35. they're also supposed to be as wide as they claim, but claim to have shorter center lugs. hopefully they clear the fork.

sorry, i know this was for a 29er tire. btw, my felt 29er has the 2.1 ignitors, i like them. surprisingly they have a good deal of traction, without the "paddle" tread design. it must be from all of the edges of the pentagon shaped lugs. although, they feel a little sluggish too me. i haven't had them wash out. i only ride the bike on the pedestrian / bike trails around otay ranch here in chula vista. so, it's pretty much loose over hardpack.

Sorry to hear the tires didn't work out for you, but a 22mm rim is probably too narrow for 2.35 or 2.4 tires, even if the siz  es aren't true.

Just don't kill yourself looking for a 29er UST tire--they don't exist. Only tubeless ready 29er tires are available.

A lot of people have had good luck running standard tires tubeless though. Hopefully Sean/Gp Pilot will weigh in here. He's run a couple different set-ups.

I came late to tubeless, but I've been running Stan's w/o tubes for several years on XC bikes and I have yet to use a "tubeless" tire to do it. Heck, I even use WTB "do not use for tubeless or this will burst into flames!" tires w/o any trouble and with some heavy abuse in the riding. Just set the beads well and sauce'em up.

2.25 Ardent F and 2.1 Ignitor R is an awesome combo as JS said. Haven't tried the 2.4 Ardent yet. Was running 2.4 Racing Ralphs on my RIP. Super high volume! These are one of the highest volume 29er fires available maybe except the new WTB Kodiak 2.5 and Ardent 2.4. Racing Ralph tread not very aggressive though.

Currently running 2.4 Mountain Kings on the RIP. Tread measures 2.4 but the casing is more like a 2.2. Very agressive tread and great traction.

As far as tubeless goes, just convert some standard tires. I haven't had any issues so far. Take that with a grain of salt though because I don't ride as much or as hard as most of the peeps on here!

First, be sure tire side walls are thick enough on non-UST tires to take abuse w/o rupturing when running through rock gardens. Also make sure the tire bead seats tight against the rim, requiring levers, so it has a good seal to start with. Put in a minimum of 4oz of Stans, spray down the bead on both sides w/ a spray bottle of light soapy water, then seat the beads w/ your high volume floor pump or air compressor regulated below 60 psi. Don't be surprised if you loose some of the Stan's when inflating. Once beads are seated, tires will likely be hissing and foaming through the sidewalls (from the soap). Shake the tire up and down as you slowly turn it to cover the sidewalls of the tire w/ Stans.

A lot of companies have "high volume" tires for 29ers, but then cut down the tread by 1/2 to 2/3 from 26" tires to be XC oriented. If you want deep tread, Nevegal 2.2 on UST rim w/ Stans has withstood everything I've thrown at it including chunky Kokopelli Trails in Fruita and has better traction than Rampages. There wasn't anything available at the beginning of 2009 with more tread, but I'm sure that's changed by now.
