I don't normally name my bikes, so we'll use "Jack" for this discussion. Jack and I have become best buds over the last two years. But as much as I've thrashed Jack around thousands of miles, he's become a bit of a dull kid lately. I rode well beyond the capabilities of the componets on Jack over the last year to many people's amazement including a 4' drop. The time came to overhaul Jack in preparation for this weekend's trip the place far, far way.

First up was a wheelset, but since I can't go with any wheelset, it was time to build some up...myself and with no one's help. Starting w/ silver DT hubs, wide Flow rims, silver DT spokes and red nipples, and a new set of Nevegal skins done tubeless.

Then it was time for a new crank and egg beaters in shinny silver .

The old Hope Mono brakes haven't been doing their job lately, so it was time for a 4-piston binders up front and a dinner plate while I was at it.

Image

None of this would be appropriate without replacing the 100mm noodle Reba fork with a 20mm TA. So today was time for shake down on my lunch loop and a photoshoot of the new Jack.

Jack is now a full fledged trail meat eater and flat out RIPs with 5" up front and 4.5" in back. XC rotating mass is loads better now with the tubeless setup. Climbing wasn't affected even with the 30mm travel increase as the new fork only added 5mm to the axle to crown height. I think Jack even went on a slight diet but have yet to confirm.

I think I remember that 4" drop that you and Jack hit up in the Sequoias...

Looks awesome, can't wait to see it in action this week.

 Nice!! The more I see those frames the more I like em. Alas no other bikes on the horizon for me. Those Hopes are sweet. I like the floating rotors. I remember hearing Avid is coming out with some of their own. I think thats the closest I'll get to those. Congrats.

I recognize that canyon. Are we neighbors?

Gp-
Question for ya. Currently riding a HT 29er; for my next bike, I need something capable of light DH (little to no FR). Been looking at Reign Xs, Nomad, RFX, etc. Do you think a RIP with a 120mm Reba would fit into that category? I know a WFO would be ideal, but its too expensive and the fork options are limited. Thanks!
