Favorite Trails: The one I'm riding today.
I'm in the market for a new bike. I want a FS 29er. There is nothing wrong with my current HT 29er, but a back injury is forcing me to give up the HT. Cost is a huge factor. The lower I keep costs the better.

My background: MTBer for 10+ years. Been there, ridden that. I've owned Santa Cruz, Turner, Yeti, Niner, Ventana, Giant, Haro, Specialized and Trek. I'm of the mind that the higher price tag doesn't always mean a better ride. And like I said -- cost is a big factor. My back is forcing me off a great HT and onto a FS bike.

Found this 2014 Trek EX 8 29 on a closeout for $1999. I also have a KS dropper post that will swap over to this bike, making it an even better deal. Does anyone know of a better deal out there? I've been searching and I can't find one. Any and all opinions are welcomed!

Probably not. Trek close out deals are probably the best bang for buck. I got my wife's bike on a close out for a great deal.

That's a great deal. Grab it! All new everything. But if your HT components are in good shape, you could transfer them to a FS frame. I've seen some good deals on Yeti & Santa Cruz frames on Competitive Cyclist.

I just found a really good deal on a 2014 Transition Bandit 29 frame. All my current HT components -- including my dropper post -- will swap over. I think we have a winner!

I like the Covert too but buying the Covert means extra money for a new fork since my current 120mm fork isn't quite up to that task.
