to fourflys: walmart makes companies drop their prices or they wont carry it. said company drops it but walmart asks to drop it more. they force this said company to keep dropping it until its just barley worth it for them. some eat the cost thinking just being im walmart will help them grow. another thing wally does wrng is not pay people right away. they keep stalling and stalling demanding more than net 90. thenthe little guy has to go out of buisiness since they still havent been paid for their huge order. then wally says hold on, WE will save you...by buying you! trust me, walmart evil.

As far as Los goes (I dont know what their shady business tactics are but I do know that Ill kick, scratch, punch and bite to get a step ahead in this world. Hell Id even poop on someone (not friends of course)...
---Corruption could be the end of the American empire. Doesn't it bother you that you are helping to justify unethical activity? Just saying.

Guess it depends on your perspective. I see this as free market capitalism - both parties are free to do business with each other at will. Walmart has just made themselves the king of their supply chain. Their suppliers that go on to become successful will do the same. So don't blame Walmart, blame the people who shop there.

Now you want to talk corruption, how about the recent protectionist ban on big box stores by the SD city council? I guarantee that if any of the big box stores were union shops, you wouldn't hear a word from the council.

Back on topic, I took slight offense to the title as well. So we're all clear:

Fixie/townie riders = coffee sipping hipsters
Singlespeed MTBrs = beer drinking massochists

It was just a shot at being humorous...don't get your panties in a twist....

"Humour or humor (see spelling differences) is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as humours (Latin: umor, "body fluid"), control human health and emotion."

OK RoyR..... Finally hipsters ride fixed gear bikes not single speeds. I know you were just joking but if you are going to burn someone do it right, if you have any question on how to do please reference this post. Sorry I am just feeling ornery today. :D

It says its a fixed gear bike...am I reading it wrong?

Yes. You have to read it as deceptive advertising. If something doesn't sound right, it probably isn't. Especially in a Walmart ad. What it says is "fixed-speed" -- meaning a single fixed speed. Not a solidly fixed gear or "fixie". So they make it sound like the "cool" hipster bike without actually being one. And probably heading off liability lawsuits from people who get flung off going downhill.

I suspected "fixed-speed" right away, and the infamous bike snob confirmed it:

http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/2010/04/bsnyc-product-review-walmarts-mongoose.html

He actually bought one just to write a review, complete with detailed pictures of the fine components.
