Nice. And quick.

Thanks. I ran into the same trouble with my MCR 9, but this time I changed the middle ring to Niner's singlespeed ring because it has taller ,wider teeth. Hopefully it works for a while. I'll be happy if I get two months of riding out of the chain before it stretches. It's an $11 Sram PC-1.

Tubeless, Ardent 2.4 EXO tires, ENO crankset (jewelry), 32 x 20, and no where close to 17 pounds - more like 21. Broke the original SRAM PC-1 after a dozen rides.....switched to a heavy duty BMX chain - surprisingly is about the same weight and much thicker of a chain....recommended.

Hmmm . . . I didn't go to the Blackspire singlespeed ring until I gave up on the magic gear. The Forte' tensioner I MacGyver'd to push up gives me lots of chain wrap on the rear cog and doesn't look as clunky as the push-down variety.

What BMX chain are you running and where did you purchase it?

KMC 710......I am sure there are better choices, but it works, is not too heavy, cool looking and beefy.....not easy to take links out to shorten(need a good chain tool). BBling might still have one, or others that would work as good or better.

That chain does look good, with those holy side plates and all... do you know its full-length weight?

Do you ride Spring with your SS ? how is the the climb with that frame ?

I just started riding my 29er SS in Spring Canyon, I cant make it to the top of barrels yet but that is the goal.

^^^ I do ride that at Spring Canyon. The frame is fine for climbing -- it's my legs that give me problems. I just went from an 18t cog to a 19t (32 up front) and on the first ride I spun my rear wheel and stopped right at the top of the rock wash. I still need to get a lot stronger, but that's the whole point of riding my single speed more.

Trying this single speed thing again. All my other attempts were with the "magic gear" and they would always fail due to chain stretch, but now that I have a bike with sliding dropouts I'm giving it a real go.

Indeed. Very nice looking Kona!

Congrats on a great rig. I bet that thing's a ton of fun....or like 18lb of fun, but you know.
