I'm a computer geek and currently have a HTC Mogul Windows phone with built in GPS.
I was scoping out a GPS to take with me on my bike to track my distance and altitude and other BS that I don't really need to know. I decided I would try to find some software that could do the same thing but use my GPS enabled phone.

This is what I came across:
http://www.rungps.net/

It tracks and logs all of your GPS data including speed info, altitude, distance and way points. You can upload it to google maps or their portal site ( http://www.gps-sport.net ) that is designed to track your exercise and totals.
You can also turn on a tracking feature that will allow someone to track you in real time on their website.

I'm going to get out and really test it tonight.

The software is reasonably priced at ~ $35.00. I'm currently running a cracked version but plan to buy it after a little more testing.

Got out last night with the wife for some riding. She's pretty slow so I figured it would be a good chance to play with this.

The software works great but tends to rain the battery pretty quickly on the phone. I would guess at a full charge, the phone would be dead in about 3-4 hours of use. I'm looking into ways to put the phone on standby but keep the GPS active. Another way to save battery life is to not use the live tracker.

We had a pretty chill ride, stopped a couple times to check out lizards and adjust seats and what not.

At the end of the ride I checked the phone and then uploaded my logs to the gps-sport website. Since I have a full data plan for my phone I only need to click upload and bam its done in about 2 seconds and with a refresh of my web browser, its posted.

I have to say, the software is slick. there's a few minor bugs I've run into with live tracking but I don't see it as something I would use often.

Here's a link to my profile http://www.gps-sport.net/users/bugsy91881

you can click on the little icon of the mountain bike on the calendar and it will give you the full details of my ride last night and even shows where we paused.

i have google maps on my crackberry, and i've heard i can trace with it, but it drains my battery pretty quickly too.

we have a forerunner, and for simple tracking, it's not bad, and it has a heart monitor. i have to figure out how to make it work with linux....

Greg, I don't think they support the Blackberry OS.

Here is thier list of supported devices.
