So I've started riding this week after the triple bone break a couple months ago. Starting on the road while my toothpick-sized arm bulks up again, and trying to get some leg power back. Been riding Torrey Pines/UCSD/Del Mar area, and went out for a lunchtime loop today.

While riding by the TP golf course I notice a roadie approaching from behind. He passes by, not much faster than I'm going, and doesn't acknowledge me at all - no nod, no hello, not even a glance. He's sporting a "Tour of California" jersey, a nice looking Ti bike and looks like a strong rider.

Descending Torrey, I notice he's pretty much coasting and I stay a couple hundred feet back from him. Once at the bottom I keep pace with him, and when we start to ascend into Del Mar I'm catching up pretty quickly though I'm not even really trying, he's just going really easy.

I can see I'm about to experience one of my favorite moments on the road: the moment a dusty, baggy-short wearing, all-mountain 2.35 knobby tired bike riding dirtbag passes by a clean-shaven lycra-clad muscled-leg roadie geek. It's always fun to see what happens next!

I draft him for a few seconds and see his pace is just way too slow, so I make the move and pass him fairly quickly. IMMEDIATELY I hear him power up a couple gears and just floor it past me (without a nod or a howdy of course). I can't help but laugh out loud.

He goes and goes all the way up the hill until he's out of sight. Go Alberto!! :flame:

The only question: Can he outrun the humiliation?

Or maybe he was just another example of a pompass, arrogant, fucktard roadie.

There are a lot of Roadies out there that don't have the same attitude as the dirt guys. I rarely ever get a wave back or a whats up when I'm on the road.

Not all roadies are asshats. Just a good amount of them, lol.

FUCK ROADIES. They're all a bunch of little bitches and this is just another example of it. Even the few people I know who used to ride road bikes are a bunch of little pussies with HUGE manginas.

That's riding on the 101. Just did it today and had a similar experience though I was on a road bike. Roadies like to mix it up.

I am in no way defending this behavior, but there have been instances where it is kinda fun/cool. Say when a group passes you, you hang on, take a pull in front. After a while a sort of respect devlops and you actually start talking to each other. Kinda weird and immature, but that's the way it is out there usually.

But you were on a mtb and passed him, so you were threatening his manhood since he was in underwear and on a bike more than half as light as yours. So he wanted get the esteem back and took off. You won though and he knows it.

Welcome back to riding!

I am now shaving my mangina

Hard to say, You did stalk him, LOL.

Maybe you should have clicked up and followed him? I do repeats on the TP inner service road weekly, you can climb the whole thing in the dirt on the side of the road. Its fun to pass roadies in the dirt, with their "huh?" faces, then turn around and nod hello as you pass them to do another round.

If you like a good coastal climbing workout, the Blacks beach service road is a granny gear climb, also good and on the route :)

There was a coffee mug in dirtrag that said "does not play well with roadies" and some guy wrote in to say that he was also a roadie and doesn't appreciate mtb'ers not including everyone. Well let me just say that its not that we don't want to include roadies or be cool with them...oh wait, yes it is, my bad. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=426&hilit=lycra+approval

Big thanks for that reminder. I've scouted it out on Google maps a couple years back, but never got to go check it out in person.
