Hey Ldood, I think my neighbor is the one who took in your cast-away! Small world huh?

They got yellow lab/rotweiler mixed puppy from a rescue as a companion for their small Havanese dog. The mom of this pup was a rotweiler, but the pup looks more lab than anything so we're guessing at the lab/rotweiler mix part. That worked great for about 2 weeks until the Havanese got eaten by a coyote right out of their back yard. There were bloody tracks as the coyote dragged the tiny dog over a 5' chain link fence.

So their new pup was lonely and they contacted the rescue group to see if littermates were still available, but they were all taken. A day or two later, a dog that looks just like your "Red" was returned and they picked him up as a companion. His new name is "Diego", but they did say that his name was originally Red.

Believe it or not, this new dog (presumably your Red) is the good one. He is quite obedient and is really a great dog. The other one (looks more like a yellow lab) is pure wild puppy jumping all over everyone and is so far quite training-resistent. They've got some work cut out for them!

Wow. That's amazing. Does Diego have an odd black stripe going across the middle of his tail?

I worked with Red a bit on sit and stay. He was a great puppy; it was just my daughter really brought out the worst in him, and my kids are still pretty young for me to take on raising another baby.

If that's indeed Red, we really, really want to know what he looks like when he's older.

So sorry to hear about their other dog. Good to hear the new puppy's working out. I hope they protect him from the coyotes.

I'll check out Diego's tail next time I see him. There's just too much coincidence here for it not to be the same dog.

This is Cali. We think she may be part Malinois. The first clue was when I caught her sipping my Affligem.

I think I'm going to get a pet goat -- we were at the fair today and I finally met an animal friendlier and happier than my Golden Retriever.

I've never been a fan of Stone's Belgian attempts, but given my affinity for Saison lately, perhaps I should give it a shot.

TLDR: we'll see...
