Coronado Brewing Company "Idiot IPA". I'm not a huge fan of this brewery, but this West Coast IPA is very tasty. It was recommended by one of the bro's at BevMo when I was looking to buy Alpine Brewing Co.'s "Pure Hoppiness". Oh yeah . . . 8.5% ABV.

I stopped at Alpine on Sat after the noble ride and filled growlers of their Captain Stout and their soccer world cup-inspired Red Card ale. The RC is particularly tasty, I'd go check it out there before its gone (paging 406!)

I need to stop by there after my next trip to the Lagunas. BevMo doesn't stock their product, and I've heard nothing but good things about that brewery.

Speaking of beer Evan, how much time have you been spending at the O.B. Pizza Port?

Yeah, I like that stuff. Last time I was in, had a sample after I had already filled the growler with their normal red...regretted not getting a growler of the red card after the first sip.

Not nearly enough! I was out of control packed at first, seems to be more normal now.

FYI for anyone thinking of going to Alpine, they're closed Sundays so make sure to plan your rides for Saturdays or during the week.

I've quaffed on the White Hawk IPA, from Mendocino Brewing, during my intense seat-the-bead-with-a-floor-pump workout session with three wheels last night. Although I'm generally a fan of this brewery and this beer is technically fine, it's a little too light-bodied for my IPA tastes. It's not "lite" by any stretch, but it's closer to an English IPA than a California edition, that's for sure.

+1...I wasn't expecting much from this IPA other than it was something that I never had before. It's pretty solid and well balanced.

FYI, for all you hop heads there are a couple of releases in the next few weeks that you have to try. The first is Citra DIPA from Kern River Brewering Co. It's crisp and very "citrusy" (if that is even a word). Unfortunately, as the brew company's name suggests, it is over in Kernville. The batch is being released next weekend and unfortunately (at least for this batch) you can only get it at the pub (pints and growler fills). You might be able to score some at Toronado but I doubt it since they are brewing for Mammoth's Bluesapalooza. Also up for release is Alpine's Exponential Hopiness (Imperial IPA). This is probably my favorite hoppy beer. Solid malt backbone but still balanced nicely with the hop bitterness. This is going to be released mid August. Alpine is close (relatively speaking). You won't be disappointed.

OK, there's my beer rant.

Coconut porter from Maui Brewing Co. Yum! Took me a month to find it since a friend first told me about it. Found it last week at Blind Lady alehouse, then looked today at Wholefoods. For such a hippie-infested yuppie hole they have a great beer selection.

I'm not sipping it, but I'd love to try it.....

anyone know how difficult it is to dress up a carcass/bottle like that? should i start saving roadkills? you could put a bottle of alley cat in an alley cat, a bottle of chihuahua in a chihuahua, etc.
