While this info comes from our normal enemy (Diane Nygaard) in this situation it's good.
North River Farms is a planned development on North River Road where there are currently tomatoe fields. We also know when more developments go in more mitigation land is needed and we all know what mitigation land means, no Mtn Biking...
Dear Person Concerned about North River Farms
I am contacting you because you submitted comments on this project.
On August 22 the Oceanside City Council will be considering entering into a development agreement with Integral, the developer of North River Farms . This is a blatant attempt to get around the normal project review process, the CEQA process and to grant the developer entitlements prior to the people's vote on Measure Y. Measure Y, the SOAR initiative, will give the people the right to vote on conversions of open space and farmland to dense development like this . It will be on the Nov ballot.
This action to bypass proper project review, CEQA, and a pending vote of the people is unprecedented in Oceanside. But it reminds us very much of what Caruso tried to do in Carlsbad- buying a city council to get a terrible project approved while bypassing the normal project approval process. City staff and Planning Commission have already expressed their opposition to the project. The City Council is ignoring the recommendations of their staff, their Planning Commission, and the people of this community- and putting the developer first.
Please help us stop this terrible violation of proper process by :
1. Email the Mayor and City Council at
council@ci.oceanside.ca.gov2. Attend the hearing
When : 6 PM Wed August 22
Where : Oceanside City Hall - 300 N Coast Highway
Urge them to vote NO on this development agreement. Tell them why you oppose it in your own words- calling out things like follow the proper project review process, wait until all of the environmental issues have been properly evaluated, why expedite just because a developer wants to, there is no public benefit to putting hundreds of homes where they do not belong- don't sell our city to developers, etc.
The DEIR already identifies the huge impacts this project will cause- traffic congestion (making evacuation even worse) , air pollution, excess GHG, 90% of emergency calls will take longer than 5 minutes to respond to ( too bad -you're dead) growth inducing.
The developer is putting their profits first. But we expect our City Council to put the residents of Oceanside first. Urge them to follow the proper procedures- make sure all project impacts are fully evaluated and mitigated. and only then should they be considering whether this project should be approved or not.
