Being off the bike sucks but I’m trying to make the best of it when healing up. I wanted to share some bike related tasks you can do to keep the stoke going and not get frigging pissed

1. Clean your camelback with soap and water to get out all the sweat of those tasty trail rides you had. Use your anger while your scrubbing since it doesn’t help to sit around getting pissed.
2. Helmet cleaning time is right behind the backpack. There’s some funky junk stuck into that clammy foam padding
3. Take time to put your feet up (helps reduce swelling) and scan through old DT posts. It will help you from getting frigging pissed off about not being able to ride
4. Contact a buddy. Let him tell you how well his weekend rides were and how the rides kept him from getting frigging pissed off.
5. Dismount your rear wheel and clean out/lube the free wheel. Make sure you don’t over-tighten the locknut if you’re frigging pissed.
6. Pour yourself a frosty cold Stout- it’s hard to pout when you’re drinking stout!
7. Bleed your brakes- good to do to get your bike ready to ride. Don’t get pissed if you can’t ride. That does nothing to help the situation.
8. Remove the crankset and check the bottom bracket bearings. Lube everything back up but don’t get pissed off if they are bad. It will keep you busy since you can’t ride
9. Change out those shifter cables (yes, 2) and adjust it properly. Don’t get frigging pissed if it takes you a while. You can’t ride anyway.
10. Clean/grease/adjust the headset. Don’t snap a stem bolt by torquing it too tight since your pissed about not riding.
11. Open that latest issue of eBike Magazine and read how to Hop up that bad boy.
12. Check out Trailforks and look for trails with 1% grade max to ride when you get back on the bike.

As I sit on my ass wishing I could ride I’m sure I’ll find other bike related activities to do so I don’t get frigging pissed

I usually just skip to step 6 and wallow in my sadness of not riding. :)

In all seriousness, every long term injury I've had, I've ended up building a new bike by the time I was healed up. Can't sit still that long...

Going out and hiking is an acceptable past time if you are still mobile. Go places we can't go on bikes. Or maybe you'll find out we can... :ninja:

So what did you do to yourself Mike? At first I thought 'bike injury', but quickly moved past that. You ride too often and are always in control. Then I thought, "hernia?". Maybe.. Then I thought, "Face Lift!". Nah.. He's a handsome devil. So I'm stumped. But whatever it is, hope you're doing OK.

Bike injury due to wires places low across a "social trail". I'll be looking more into that soon. It caught my left pedal, threw me forward, then backwards into a bush & ditch. It's always fun being by yourself and have to get back to the road buggered up like that.
Ended up with a stage 2 sprain and pulled/stressed tendon w/ minor tear. Nothing you can do with but R.I.C.E. Doing pretty good on the walking around bit but it's very painful when leaning forward with that tendon.

14. Study the interwebs on eBike mods to make that bad boy rip up the trail.
15. When visiting areas like St. George, Hurricane, Moab, Fruita, Sedona, and PresKit, look for museums & quaint little downtown areas to check out because you still can't friggin ride yet
16. If you plan a trip that just so happens to land on Outerbike weekend in Moab, find something you don't need but is kinda cool in the vendors area since your bike will be sitting.
17. Sharper up any trail tools that you have to be ready for the call to duty.
18. Go through the parts bin and get items ready to post up. They don't fit your bike, you won't ever use them, even if you could ride which you can't. Try not to get pissed about that last part even if the day is filled with hero dirt trails & sunshine

^^^ Good ideas. And some of the rest of us will benefit directly from #18 and maybe indirectly from # 15! Cheers. Keep flexing that elbow!
