All of the belongings are packed up and ready to be shipped and me and the family start living the hotel life this weekend until we fly out to the Carolinas in a few weeks. I did one last solo ride through Tri-canyons on Friday afternoon just to feel the stinging nettle on my shins and dodge the poison oak for old-times sake. I figured since it was the first place I put wheels to dirt eleven years ago, I would do my last ride there. I met a lot of cool people through Dirttreaders, so I'm going to miss this place.

That said, I'll probably still be lurking since I'll likely be travelling to SD for business at least once a year. Where I'm going is promising. I'll be in the Charlotte NC area where the local MTB advocacy group looks to be doing a great job with trail access and whatnot. Asheville is just a couple hours west and a new BMX facility was just built in Rock Hill SC, just a few miles south, where the UCI BMX championships will be held in a few weeks. Definitely going to miss the beach though...

I love NC and would move back there in a heartbeat if the wife would enjoy it. Too humid and too many buggies for her tastes. That state is greener than Hawaii which I didn't think was possible. Riding possibilities are nearly endless, especially if you're willing to drive. MTB access is taking off all over Tennessee and Virginia as well. I think raising kids back there (you mentioned family) is a bonus as well as the area is steeped in history and they'll have access to so many great colleges all over the East Coast. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

Good luck with everything Rob, but don't just lurk. Please post a few photos or TR's from your new home. Happy trails!

Good luck Rob! I would be interested to read comparison posts between here and there (on all subjects mtb related or not), as you get acclimated.

I'm pretty sure they have beaches there. Hatteras for example.

So long! Don't be a stranger!

I'll definitely be posting some treader reports. I've been checking out the trails in Charlotte and there's everything from rooty tech cross country to free ride stuff with big senders and wooden features. The area is very conducive to raising a family. If I get bored of the trails there's also kayaking on the Catawba river or up at the National White Water Training Center.
