Think I saw Gabe Keating doing this shit on his mountain bike...

I haven't watched any trials for years. Pretty insane what they're up to these days. Crikey.

Too funny since I watched the same video this week. I can (and do) spend hours watching them still.
It really is insane what they can do in trials now.
I rode competitively from 1972 to about 1995 riding Bultacos, Honda 125 & 250, a Fantic, and then Gas Gas. It was so much different back in the day. You couldn't stop or it was a five (max point deduction per section), had to stay within the boundaries, had 10 "sections" and you rode each loop 3 times. The biggest change from today is it was spread out over many miles in most cases which is why the sport never took off. People want to drink a beer, sit down and watch you eat shit

I loved the sport because in most cases it was just you and the bike. You didn't need the best tuner, trickest part for the week, etc. Very fair level of competition.

I used to ride on Black Mt behind my house and never made it up the hang glider paths on the right . My Honda CR500, XR600, or Suzuki 250 would spin out before reaching the top or hitting the huge rock ledge that goes straight up near the top but my trial bike would motor right up it!

^^^ Interesting Mike, I didn't know you were a trials rider. As for the video, amazing stuff yes, incredible skills, but I just prefer watching on more natural terrain. About ten years ago I went a few times to watch El Trial de Espana at Reed Valley up near Anza -- they had some amazing riding like that on natural boulder stack features.

Check out this clip. The water adds a little something to it:

It was a fun sport but there is no friggin way I would/could do the things they are hitting today. It's totally changed. In Old school times we didn't even wear a helmet  . Rode mostly Saddleback, Indian Dunes, Escape Country, Anza, Romoland, McCain Valley, and every year travel to Colorado for a couple of races.

The El Trial de Espana is like the local superbowl for trials and that was my first ever race I did. Still remember about every section of that day. Too bad it's died off but ever once in a while I'll see a couple of guys with their bikes loaded up and headed for the hills
