Yup, on same boat here. I think I only lathered it up yesterday just to feel good that I'm doing something now. LOL..

Shannon, soon as you and my buddy Mark bailed out, the pace realllly picked up some thereafter.

Ha. Yeah, we saw them on our way out. Felt douchey for bailing out early, but I kinda felt like my ookiness was a it more than a simple hangover. Today, I'm stuck at home with sickness.

It is official. Both sites of suspected skin cancer have come back positive. It is basal cell carcinoma, the most "mild" form of skin cancer but skin cancer, none the less.

I have made my appointment for mid March. The nurse told me they won't know how much tissue to remove until they start the procedure. Both sites are small but they want to be sure all cells are removed so there is a low chance of coming back at the site. She said the doctor may cut it out and/or burn it out. Nothing like getting hear the sizzle and smell the cook scent of your own flesh.

Damn, that sucks.
Do you (or did you) feel any symptomatic effects of the cancer? Low energy or everything is normal but you just have it? Were there any tell tale signs that something is maybe wrong or off before you went to get your spot checked?

I have a dark spot on my right upper jaw but I think that's me bruising it a few days ago trying to pop my oil sack (white head).

It really is just a visual clue. I had a red mole on my right forearm for years. It would always turn bright pink in the sun if I didn't have sunscreen on. I the last few years it probably doubled to about the size of a pencil eraser and would scab over if it got burned.

Since I turned 50 this year, I made the promise to myself to have complete physical, dermatological, and colon checkup. I look at this as my 50,000 mile major tuneup. I have felt fine all this time. I just want to make sure I feel as good for the next 50 years.

Really, in my opinion, anybody that spends any amount of time in the sun, is pale, or has a lot of moles, should get their skin checked regularly. My wife was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma at the ripe old age of 34. Her's was a mole on her right side that started as an itch that she thought was related to her bra irritating her skin. The biopsy came back as a stage 1 rating based on the mole thickness, but because the biopsy took so long (thanks Sharp), by the time they called her back in for the diagnosis, it had already spread to her lymph nodes. She beat it, but she now sees the derm quarterly and had a full mole mapping done after she completed her infusion therapy.

Just did some Xmas shopping for myself. Beyond sunscreen, I am looking to get out of the direct line of the sun forever. I might look like a dork going forward but if that is the price, it comes pretty cheep.

Bumping this oldie but goodie thread here..

The joy of 50 was a dozen years back for me but my lack of sunscreen & luck has got to me.
Had two spots removed two weeks ago, one on the side of my head and the other on the left ear lobe.
Doc today said the one on the lobe is the real deal so Tuesday they dig until they hit gold. I'll see if I have just a small hole or less ear to deal with

I have been using sunscreen lately but it was too lately. Cover it or lose it

Hope all goes as well as it possibly can! I don’t really see you as one of those guys with a big hollow ear plug thing, but I hear those life coaches say to turn adversity into opportunity, so you could always go for a fashion statement. Somewhere between lever bushing and bottom bracket bearing I hope. Don’t go fuckin’ Van Gogh on us.

How about a carbon stem spacer ear gauge with a gold master link nose ring thingy? Maybe in camo so DFG won't see me :ninja: :ninja:

This is the POD (Post of the day).. Humble ourselves and think beyond your own attributes and of those that will bury us and cry for us at our funerals if we continue to be reckless and not caring especially for our skin on these trails we love..

The doc who made my teeth also did ears, noses, brows etc. He was pretty proud of his work and I was impressed. So if you want to occassionally just blend, that is an option.

Well,.. last week I had my malignant Melanoma removed from my ear. The doc dug just about the whole ear lob out including a section of the edge. I was a bit taken back when I saw it in a mirror
He said I caught it in time to save the lower portion of my ear. The pieces had to be sent out for special testing over night. When I went in the next day and was told they got it all out I was quite relieved but it still has changed me between the ears.
The following day, they sewed some pieces together to reconstruct it as best as possible, It's got tape over all the stitches so I really don't know what it will look like but probably pretty close to stock :D Maybe my male modeling days are over but hey, I'm here and rode my bike, so there...
If you haven't already, I highly suggest getting a yearly dermatology check up to make sure you have this stuff under control. This is not just an old man thing and can be simple to remove or a bit more intense. Oh, and don't forget your suntan lotion
