This did it for me: "Domo-kun is known to pass gas repeatedly when nervous or upset." It requires the Japanese to elevate weirdness to an artform. What a marvelous country. Used panty vending machines, you can rent a room for the sole purpose of demolishing it and they have hands down the greatest game shows ever aired on TV. On the sh*tlist, however: they do have a word for working yourself to death (http://www.ilocis.org/en/samplilo.html). There are always some particular phrases that are telling about the culture of a people. Take the German "Schadenfreude" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude). What a nice bunch to hang out with (lest engage in an inherently dangerous pastime with). I wonder what the defining phrase would be for America...
