My gf was asking me about fuel injector cleaner. The question was is there a difference between the expensive stuff and the cheap stuff. Searching my thoughts I had no earthly idea...then again I don't know anything about cars.

Car nuts please help me out here. Is there a difference between cheap cleaners and expensive ones? If there is how long should she put cleaner in for? 5 tanks? More?

Thanks

It's mostly gimmicks. There are detergents in gasoline already. If you really want to clean your injectors, you should remove them and send them to a place like RC Engineering. The measure flow rates, spray patterns, clean and calibrate before returning to you. But that's overkill for most people.

When I get the urge to use this stuff, I usually dump a bottle of Techron in. One bottle, one tank, and then it satisfies my bogus curiosity for this stuff...at least for a while. ;)

Ha, I did that with my wife's car hoping to prolong the life of the injectors. Especially when gas was at 4.50/gal and she switched to mid grade. Well, I'll say that it didn't help us save any money cause we had to get all kinds of stuff replaced. Fuel injectors, catalytic converter, sensors.

Good tip. Follow what the manufacturer specs for your car in terms of the proper fuel to use. German cars all need Premium unleaded, don't think it doesn't make a difference... $2000 repair says it does.

Better tip, buy Japanese. German cars are for guys that don't mtn bike :D . Put the extra money towards bike parts and gear. The car just gets you to where you need to ride anyways.

I have 2 german cars, doesn't make sense to get rid of them now, they're all paid off. But my next car will be japanese. German cars take way too much time to upkeep and then you have to keep em cleaned and that just cuts into time riding.

They are waste of your hard earned $$$. There are enough heavy solvents in your fuel to clean up the injectors.

If you need to buy any, I mean any parts for your car, I have access to best prices in town ( due to nature of my work ).

So, if you guys need anything, just call me at work here and I will have them for you at dealer cost. My work # is 619-442-5555.

By the way, if you need to buy a car, I can be a great help as I see great deals due to the slow economy. If you need financing to purchase a used car, I am here for you as well. If you need to buy an extended warranty for your used car, let me know as well. I like to help fellow mountain bikers in any way I can.

Ali
