Wolf Creek's been calling to me. Small, but massive amounts of snow and few people: a winning combination to me. Ugh.... one of these days...

Wolf Creek is a well kept secret, except for the Texan invasion. Good thing is Texans stay to the groomed slopes and don't ski knee deep powder with the 500+ inches they get. They just opened their Alberta lift two years ago and doubled their size with lift served backcountry (just like A-basin). I think max there was like 3 people in "line" in front of me. I hated making fresh tracks every run. If you've got the ballz, they've also got the extreme terrain with the Waterfall Area, Knife Ridge Chutes, Dog Chutes, Montezuma Bowl, and Alberta Peak. Ticket prices last year were $49 and $27 w/ military ID.

I think next year may be a SnowCat trip in the San Juan Mountains (& yet another great place to mountain bike).

Dude, I've wanted to hit that place for two years, ever since I found out about it. I think I will have to next year. And, ah, the San Juans. My family has land there, west of Lake City. It's extremely nice there. Unlike anywhere else I've been...

Yep, and my 12 days in Canada is our winter vacation. Last year was Wolf Creek, and the year before that was Baja.

That's sweet, been taking my 4yo to mammoth & putting him on skis, can't wait to be bombing the runs with him.

Always have our snow gear in the trunk when the snow is good to make a banzai weekend trip to mammoth..

Rock ski time!
Quote:
Major Snow for Mt Baldy
Now Open for Skiing and Boarding

We picked up 12-18 inches of new snow since last night. Still snowing hard! Forecast is calling for snow to continue into tonight.
Roads are open but you will need Chains! Even 4 wheel drives may be required to carry chains. Snow levels are down below the village and tunnels.

Open for skiing, boarding and snow tubing. Chair #1 will be operating to the top of the Notch Restaurant for scenic rides, snow play and tubing. Chair #2 the beginners area will be open for skiing and boarding. We will open the rest of the mountain as soon as the storm breaks.Tomorrow we will open Thunder Mountain to the top!

Last day to purchase your season passes and club cards!

Thanks!

Oh yeah, CO has the best snow around. It's some of the driest in the world. I once did a report for school on it and found out that it's, on average, over 1% less water content that Utah's snow... so yeah, ain't nothin like Colorado pow pow...

Burned a sick day and went to Mt. Baldy ski area on Thursday.

It was really really good.

Crazy seeing snow on the high desert.

Normal Baldy bullshit in the morning...road issues, parking lot full, ticket window line, lift issues, etc.. Lift lines in the morning because they couldn't keep the lifts running, cleared out around noon and no lines for the afternoon. Lapped south bowl and runs on Thunder mt plus a few down to the parking lot all day. Got some untracked turns on final run of the day just before 4.

Why did they invest in a snow making pond and not improving/maintaining the lifts?
