Yeah, Alpha is cool. I go there when I need something I know the other shops don't even stock. Whats really cool about them though is the turnover of some sweet gems and rides not often seen.

Do you need the coupon for B&L? I think I'm going to head over there today at lunch.

No you don't they tell you as soon as you walk in the door. Ask for Leo, he helped me & Took, if you went to the Cuyamaca Poker ride, you will recognize him.

Tomorrow there's an annual Swap Meet at Hi-Tech Bikes in Clairemont Mesa. Sunday, October 26th from 8:00 am -12:00 pm.

These guys are primarily roadies but I'm banking on other folks who were at the velo swap last weekend to show up. The velo swap was pretty sweet. There was a guy unloading kenda nevegals 2.3 for $10 brand new. I'm hoping he shows up again. :D

I went to the Beyond Bikes sale today and it wasn't anything more than what you could do on your own by bargaining with those guys (20% is nothing). Markup on accessories and parts is generally doubled wholesale. I did get jipped out of my brats though, since I got there when they opened.

Yeah, they are honest folks. I bought my first mountain bike from Jerome there in 1986. And it is definitely one of the local places to go if you are searching for some odd piece of hardware you can't find anywhere else, because they've been in the same place so long. The other place is Pacific Coast Cycles in O'side, because when Chuck moved from C'bad, where he'd been for years, I think he took all his nuts, bolts & used components with him. Newer shops just don't have that stuff.

edit: Jerome's not there now -- I think it's his brother or a relative....

From the UK, if you don't know. Comes with calipers, hose, lever and 160 mm rotors. Be prepared to pay tax to US customs. For $141 (MSRP is $275 w/o rotors).

Btw: these brakes seem to be hard to come by in the US if the place needs to re-order. That's how I came to order. Unfortunately I had already committed to the rear at my LBS. Another service charge to get the level of service I need in the face of a solid absence of mechanics skills.

Anyway, after trying them on someones bike it was a must have item. Stopping power is insane. I ate it on Nascar today owing to a hearty grip onto the lever at the bottom berm merging with VDM - went clean OTB. Gotta be more careful.

They have been reviewed on MTBR:

Decline mag had good things to say as well.

I don't recall the US customs charge, I bought about $400 worth of stuff from them this past December. My credit card company charged me for the transaction because it was overseas (maybe that's what you mean?) -- you can get around that by using Paypal.

Great deal but can't add the brakes since they don't have the 203 rotors in stock. Bummer :(
